About

Greetings. My name is Shirley and I am a graduate student at the University of Texas at Austin focusin on Japanese Cultures and Languages and desperately trying to figure out why I would do such a thing. My hobbies include reading, cooking, and pointless narcissistic exercises like this one. I hope to create a semi-academic blog here.

  1. Hi Shirley. I just bumped into your blog. I am into all things Konjakuoid and am wading my way through the Kadokawa (Gendaigo) version of the Honcho section of the Konjaku. I also have acccess to the Iwanami version which is closer to the original. I am new to Kobu but am sort of picking it up as I go along. I have a blog on Japanese Lit of all periods. But I am particularly interested in Setsuwa and pre-modern prose texts (especially Buddhist related). Its great to know that there are others doing this kind of thing out there. Nice to meet you!

    • Nice to meet you as well! I’m afraid I’m no longer doing much Japanese lit, but I find your blog very interesting and readable for someone who hasn’t been practicing her Japanese very much as of late (I’m in network security now). It makes me want to get back to reading Japanese lit on the side. Thank you for your comment!
